Ps: This post is a continuation of “Ubud- A dream and a nightmare”
As we arrived at the villa gate, we both took a breath of relief in hopes that we were going to be safe now.
We walked into the villa, only to find it empty. Β I quickly dashed to our room as David attempted to find someone, anyone who could help us make a call to the scooter rental place so we could have them come replace the tire.
As I walked in the room, I noticed it had not been cleaned. Frustrated and tired I decided to take a rag myself and clean up as much as I could and as high I could reach. The rag that was once white, was now black. π³
As I made my way through areas I wanted to clean, I realized that a window that I had clearly seen locked early in the day was now unlocked. This naturally made me a little uncomfortable as I didn’t know what to make of it. I quickly proceeded to lock it and decided to get ready for bed.
David returned after finally having found someone, and with a confirmation that they would send someone early next morning to fix the bike.
By the time we showered, and got ready for bed we were really knackered and a little paranoid about the window situation.
So we quickly, locked all the doors and windows and used the mosquito net to cover our sleeping area. Now those nets may be great for blocking mosquitos but they are terrible for circulating air. I felt like I was trapped in a cardboard box. Even with the air conditioner on it felt like a sauna (Although the air-conditioner was not that great to begin with, it needed to be boosted twice).
As I laid there, praying nothing comes through the net and that I survive the night, I started hearing really bizarre sounds. We’re not sure what it was, but it was in the room. A loud clicking sound and what sounded like two really angry cats fighting each other.
It must have been the exhaustion because I finally dozed off to sleep. When I woke up in the morning, I found some fresh droppings near our bed π. I don’t even want to start to venture what it could be, or how close it got to us.
All I knew, is we had to get the hell out of this place.
I quickly called agoda.com, explained the situation and requested they cancel our booking. Upon providing them with proof visa photos they agreed to reimburse us for the rest of the stay.
With a sigh of relief, I packed my bags faster than I’ve ever packed and got the hell outta there.
Since then, we moved and stayed in a cottage in the city for three days and just today we moved into a cute little home stay in Ubud’s city centre. My recommendation to anyone coming to Bali is book your first 4-5 days in a hotel but then get out there and just walk the streets. There are tons of gorgeous home stays that are worth staying in. And you can actually see the premises before paying anything.
We are now staying at Darta Green Garden. For 30$ a night, we’ve got a beautiful room with breakfast included and it’s super clean. No mysterious sounds or poop in site. ππΎ
But of course there’s always something exciting happening in Asia and I’ve managed to catch the Bali Belly. I’ll spare you the story on that! π
