A taste of the West in the East!

After spending a month of divine exploration in Vietnam, we flew to Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. I was rather excited for this new leg of our trip as I had always been fascinated by Malaysian culture. A Muslim country with a rich mix of Malay, Indian,Chinese and European cultures. Their cuisine is a mix of Indonesian, Indian and Chinese food.  A fast moving city, Kuala Lumpur provides everything a big city has to offer. A booming night life, fine dining, shopping and the simple delight of watching the various cultures intertwine and live life. Oh! AND how can I forget, an indoor amusement park!!!

We rented an airbnb that was two minutes away from Bukit Bintang (BB) – The shopping and entertainment district of Kuala Lumpur. The sheer number of shopping options in BB can drive even the most intense shopoholic insane. Our favourite part about residing at this particular location was we never went to bed hungry. 😀  Food options were endless and we were gluttons at best. Our preferred mode of transportation in KL, was walking and UBER given our proximity to areas of interest. We loved that Malaysians spoke English fluently as it was a nice break from our struggle of the last few months of attempting to communicate with drivers. On our last night in KL, we booked an airbnb at the luxurious ‘Regalia apartments’. Don’t waste your money going up the Petronas towers. Instead, book a room at the Regalia (65$CAD) and enjoy the view as you take a relaxing swim in the infinity pool. 1 night was definitely not enough as we could have easily spent a week enjoying the rooftop restaurant, pool and gym but it was time to move on.

Penang’s capital city, is listed as a World Heritage site by UNESCO. This is one city I would highly recommend visiting. The people were warm and friendly, the food was delicious and every nook and cranny had a story to tell. No wonder it’s been declared a world heritage site. There are various 3D art pieces around the city and this makes for wonderful experiential photos. While there, we discovered a hammock cafe. A coffee shop full of hammocks to relax while sipping on coffee and tea.  I’ve added a photo of me at the coffee shop along with a few shots of the 3D art.

In terms of prices, it was slightly more expensive than Vietnam, Thailand and Indonesia but not by much. Depending on the level of luxury you are seeking, it is possible to travel to Malaysia on a budget.

After Malaysia, came Cambodia. And what a lesson Cambodia was..

More on that soon 😊
